I was born in Defiance, Ohio, in the frozen winter of '53 and grew up on a farm near Hamler, Ohio. I went to school in Hamler, a place so large that you had to stop the train coming through town if you wanted to open and read a newspaper. After high school I worked at the Campbell Soup Company in Napoleon, Ohio for slightly over a year to help pay my way to commercial art school in Pittsburgh, PA. I stayed a year and had to transfer to Cleveland Cooper School of Art another commercial art school, couldn't afford a fine art school where I learned how to spec type, another thing that is almost completely useless in this computer world.
I actually graduated and got a job in Lima, Ohio doing ad layouts for a company called Artex and then it happened, someone actually said yes, I will marry you. My wife Holly is still trying to recover and is probably wondering what was in that drink I gave her. We have two wonderful children, Heather and Nathan and they have both found their own life partners Matt and Angie, even after meeting yours truly. We promised them that it wasn't necessary for me to meet their parents before the weddings
The company I worked for in Lima moved their opporation to South Carolina and we decided to stay in Buckeyeland and screenprint t-shirts. Why? I don't know, but it is still the business that I own and opporate in Ottawa, Ohio. There are many times when I've looked up and said "Lord help me", but I think he's sitting in heaven with my father and really enjoying my adventure and misdirection. By the way, as my hair recedes I think that I'm actually getting brighter. The other night the lights went off in the house. My wife shown a flashlight on me and the light bounced off my head, hitting her directly in her eyes, blinding her and sending her into the doorframe.
